The wood stork, also known as the American wood stork, is a large wading bird native to the southeastern United States, Central America, and South America. This unique bird has a distinctive bald head and long, downward-curved bill. The wood stork is also known as the wood ibis, or the ironhead. Occasionally referred to as the prehistoric bird, or the flinthead, the wood stork is an important part of many ecosystems. Unfortunately, the species has declined in recent years due to habitat loss and other factors. Despite its diverse range of nicknames, the conservation of the wood stork remains a pressing concern.
