The wood ibis, also known as the wood stork or American wood stork, is a large wading bird that is native to the southeastern United States, as well as Central and South America. In addition to these common names, there are a few other synonyms that may be used to refer to this species. Some of these include the painted stork, the ironhead, and the jabiru. These names may be less commonly used than wood stork or wood ibis, but they all refer to the same species of bird. Regardless of the name used, the wood ibis is recognized for its distinctive appearance, with its bald head and long beak set against a dark feathered body.
