A victimizer is a person who inflicts harm or injury to another person, group or community. There are a number of synonyms for the word victimizer, including oppressor, aggressor, bully, abuser, tyrant, torturer, and perpetrator. Each of these words carries a slightly different connotation, but all share the commonality of causing pain and suffering to others. Oppressor and tyrant imply a more systemic form of control, while aggressor and bully suggest a more overt, physical form of abuse. Abuser and torturer may refer more specifically to psychological and physical violence, respectively. Perpetrator is perhaps the most general term, encompassing anyone who commits an act of harm toward another.
