Undulant fever, also known as brucellosis, is a zoonotic disease that affects humans and animals alike. The disease is characterized by a fluctuating fever, sweats, chills, and muscle aches. While undulant fever is commonly used, there are a number of synonyms that describe the disease and its symptoms. These include Malta fever, Crimean fever, Bang's disease, Mediterranean fever, and Gibraltar fever. The disease is caused by bacteria of the genus Brucella and is transmitted to humans by the consumption of unpasteurized dairy products or contact with infected animals. Treatment for undulant fever usually involves a course of antibiotics and prolonged rest to manage symptoms.
