A television pickup tube, also known as a cathode ray tube or CRT, is a vacuum tube used in early television sets to display images. However, modern televisions use alternative technologies such as Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs) and Plasma TVs. Some synonyms for the term "television pickup tube" include image tube, CRT display, picture tube and tube TV. While these terms are not interchangeable in technical language, they all refer to the same type of technology. Even though the CRT has become outdated, it was a revolutionary invention which paved the way for modern displays.
