Kingfishers are a dazzling group of birds that are known for their vibrant plumage and sharp beaks. They are classified under the family Alcedinidae, which include over 90 species. Some of the commonly known kingfishers are the belted kingfisher, pied kingfisher, and the electric blue azure kingfisher. Apart from their common name, kingfishers are known to possess several synonyms based on their unique features, behavior, or habitat. For example, the black-capped kingfisher is also referred to as the oriental dwarf kingfisher because of its small size. The ringed kingfisher is known for its distinctive ring of feathers around its neck and is also called the Amazon kingfisher.
